In the news...
I was most amused (when channel surfing last night) to see 'ABC World News'. For a start I'm not sure what 'world' had to do with anything all the news was about the USA
Then they showed the huge storm icon going over where Shane lives, and had 5 reporters dotted around covering the weather. OK, their snow inland is horrible, and we don't get snow that bad here any more; but come on guys, reporting how terrible getting 1 inch of rain in a day is
Perhaps they should visit the UK now and again, we get 1 inch of rain at least once a week through December, January and February most years
Latest for UK is: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4714344/No-let-up-in-the-flood-with-now-six-weeks-rain-due-in-five-days-and-up-to-seven-inches-by-Saturday.html
Shame Jack Klugman and Gerry Anderson passed away at Chrismas

Re: In the news...
They do tend to sensationise things in the news here, especially when there isn't much going on with real news. FOX is even worse.
Re: In the news...
Yesterday was pretty shit for news, people non stop shopping and the maker of Thunderbirds, Captin Scarlet and Stingray dying.

Bombing the Boston Marathon, whatever next
I hope there aren't too many dead or seriously injured, what a dreadful shame.

Re: In the news...
As of right now there are 2 dead and 22 injured. They have shut down the entire center of Boston right now.
Re: In the news...
Blimey. Just after reading the sad news about Terry I then see this!
Just put he TV on & I can't quite believe what I am seeing.

Yup and it just keeps getting worse. Now they say 2 dead 51 injured. More devices have been found and cell service in Boston has been shut down, along with public transport and sporting events being cancelled.
Re: In the news...
In the end it seems 3 dead and 100 injured.
With the London Marathon next week I'm sure security will be a nightmare for all. Such a shame sporting events are targeted. If terrorists stick to political gatherings I could understand why.

Re: In the news...
We had 3 people from my town who were running and they are fine. I heard from another friend who was up watching the race but he was about 3 blocks away and didn't know anything had happened from where he was. My buddies wife was supposed to be running but hurt herself. He and their kids would have been right there waiting for her. A bad knee can be a good thing sometimes.
Re: In the news...
Not to worry Shane, I'm sure 6 hours in she'd have finished long before the bombs.
Seems an odd choice of target, and even stranger choice of timing for any terrorist group. I'd have though Margaret Thatcher's funeral would have been more of a target really.
Shame the count is 3 dead, 176 injured now. I have a feeling the death count will rise within a week too from the seriously injured not making it

When I said 'Whatever next' after the Boston bombs I wasn't expecting it to be 70 dead in Waco just a few days later
Good to see Maggies funeral was a civilised event yesterday

Re: In the news...
The FBI released pictures of the suspects in the bombing last night. I just woke up to find that one of them has been killed and the other one is on the run after killing a local police officer. It's not going to be long before we have the who's and whys on this one.
Re: In the news...
The one that was killed, was riddled.

Re: In the news...
That will happen when you charge a line of armed police officers with a bomb strapped to your chest.
Re: In the news...
What a bizarre day here. Watching the news all day long the streets of Boston were empty. Everyone, and I mean everyone, stayed out of the way of law enforcement but once the word got out that the last suspect the streets were packed and there was singing, cheering, and crowds everywhere. They were some pretty dramatic times there.
Re: In the news...
2 weeks later and here's the follow up. The surviving bomber is in a top security prison hospital ward and talking to investigators. 29 people are still in the hospital recovering. Now for the really amazing thing, the fund set up to help those victims with their recoveries is now up to $26.5 million which just shows me that there really are good people out there who will step up to help their fellow man.
Re: In the news...
It hasn't been wide spread but today Queen Beatrix (Orange-Nassau) of the Netherlands is abdicating in favour of her son Willem-Alexander(Orange-Nassau) who is the First prince let alone King of the Netherlands since William III 1849-1890.
The Orange-Nassau dynasty has pretty much got connections to all current European monarchies and even holds claim to the English throne but Willem lost his claim when he married a Catholic.
Gelukkig koninginnedag(koningsdag)!

That's cool, she's been queen for quite a while. About time ours did the same I think. I'm sure Elizabeth is trying to outdo Victoria

Re: In the news...
I'm not sure if it made the news over there but a huge tornado touched down yesterday about 70 miles South of Ryan. The pictures of the devistation actually brought tears to my eyes. Whole streets turned to kindling, cars stacked up like matchbox toys. When I left for work there were 51 confirmed dead and as 2 schools were hit, there are still at least 2 dozen children missing. All this in a town that got hit in 1999 by almost the exact same thing.
Re: In the news...
Here's an aerial shot of how it looks. I'm pretty sure that's one of the schools at the bottom of the picture.

Re: In the news...
It has made the news over here, it looks dreadful
Fortunatly the death toll is confirmed as 24 now, not as high as originally thought in the chaos (as of 30 mins ago).
It seems a lot of the presumed dead have turned up with minor injuries, thankfully. Still, 24 dead is awful, and I'm sure a lot will be children.
