The Medical Thread
I've noticed some of us have medical issues from time to time (and I don't mean just an itch Stu! lol) so I thought it might be handy to have all comments in one place. It's good to know friends are supporting you, and nice to know how mates are doing too.
Today I discovered I have 'Mild Background Retinopathy' (as well as Graves Disease), it means my eyesight is fine but I have to be tested yearly to keep a check on it in case it gets worse.
How's everyone else doing?

Re: The Medical Thread
Besides the Arthritis in my hands that has me in constant pain, some form of sleep disorder, and skin cancer (use sunblock kids) I'm doing just great until the cancer that has been waiting 30 years for me to smoke enough cigarettes arrives.
Re: The Medical Thread
Well I'm still suffering at the moment.
Prolapsed a disc in my lower back in February which eventually lead to me having Surgery 6 weeks ago. The first 3 weeks things looked promising however the past 3 weeks has seen the onset of headaches plus pain and numbness in my left leg (the right leg is fine now after the surgery) when I stand or walk for anything more than 10 minutes.
I returned to work this week which has been a struggle but really needed to know how I could cope with it before seeing the consultant last Thursday.
Had some blood tests done and will have a second MRI scan this Tuesday morning then back to see him on Thursday to go over the results.

Re: The Medical Thread
Good luck Daz, I know how back pain makes you feel, I broke my back when I was young. Some days I just wanted to cry at the thought of having to get out of bed
Try acupuncture for pain relief, it did wonders for me, tablets and physio etc. didn't touch it.

Re: The Medical Thread
my prob started as a bad fall playing football. very saw shoulder for weeks told there was nothing wrong and just go on with it. 6-7 years down the line ended up with a large painful lump on shoulder. had to stop work, local hospital said it was just arthritis. another year down the line, having not been working much my physio & doctor referred me to another hospital. and guess what.. i was told i needed an op. 6 weeks later all done and i felt great.. half my shoulder gone but still breathing. year later needed another op to remove more bone.now it looks like i need to have to go in again.
being a very sporty person being told to stay sill for long periods of time is not funny, plus having to use chin to play PS isnt fun.
but there are many people with worse probs. i think myself very lucky.
rant over.. this thread will end up being whos got the best scar thread :lol!:but if we all look after each other every thing will be cool

LOL!
I have a couple of lovely Scars now Motley.
The new one on my Back complements the one i have on my Knee nicely from where I had Surgery on that 2 years go.
I know how Frustrating it must be for you not being able to play your Sports.
I was going to the Gym 5 times a week before and really miss it a lot. After 6months I hoped to be back by now but will be a little while yet I guess.

Always fun trying to lay motionless in a small metal tube listening to things clanking and banging around you. Yeah enjoy that Dazz.

Well having had one a couple of months back I thought I knew what to expect which is as Shane describes for 25 mins.
However I was in for an unexpected Bonus! After 25 mins they pulled me out the Tube and started injecting stuff into my arm before shoving me back in for another 5-10 mins!
Apparently they do this if you have recently had back surgery as the stuff they inject into you effects how scar tissue shows up on the scan so that they can see if that is causing any problems!
Now I have no idea of what they pumped into me so i hope I don't start going green when I get angry.

Re: The Medical Thread
Ok so im going to see the consultant tomorrow to get full details but he called me a little while ago to say that he had looked at the scan and he wants me back in hospital next week for another Operation.
All I know at the moment is that there seems to be a tear in my Spinal cord which is leaking Spinal Fluid. This is what is causing he Headaches but also due to the location of the tear it has inflamed all the nerve roots which is why I am getting the pains in the back and leg.
The tear seems to have happened post op once i started getting more mobile again and could be down to a sharp bone fragment trapped in there.

Re: The Medical Thread
Now that doesn't sound at all good. Do what they tell you, get it sorted, and get well as soon as you can. No wonder you're in pain.
Re: The Medical Thread
OK so just been to see the Consultant and he has booked me in for Surgery this Monday!! Will be in hospital for about a week.
Must admit the Scan pictures showing all the leaked Spinal fluid were a bit scary!

Re: The Medical Thread
Ewww. I don't even want to think about that but this time do what they tell you and don't be pushing too hard or we'll be taking away your ps3. Be well and keep us posted if you can.
Re: The Medical Thread
Good luck with the surgery, at least they're not keeping you waiting long. I'm sure you'll be fine after it, and no more pain.
We'll miss you while you're off, but take it easy and recover well!
