I'm sure your Dad will be fine Shane, my Great Uncle had his hips replaced, he was bouncing around like a kid within a month of the operations! Hope they get them done soon for him so he can enjoy running around again.

Re: The Medical Thread
I talked to my folks last night, and even though he knows he has to do something Dad still isn't liking the idea. He won't admit it but I'm sure he's thinking of his mother who had a knee replacement done 30 something years ago and lost her leg when it didn't work. They've come a long way since then but I'm sure the concern is still there. Worst case is he doesn't do it and ends up in a wheelchair. Best case is he gets it done and can walk normally again but who wants to listen to their kids?
Re: The Medical Thread
Hope he goes ahead with it Shane, you'll just need to remind him what a burdon he'll be to your Mum if he's in a wheelchair
My shoulder and arm really ache today, I was hoping it'd be getting a lot better by now, more time off work ahead. Due back 5th November

Re: The Medical Thread
Now down to 9 tablets a day and hoping to get better by the end of the year at least. Due back to work on 19th November, I'll have been off work for 2 months then.
Still pain in my shoulder and arm, but at least I'm getting about 6 hours of sleep a night now, and not waking up in pain about 2-3am every morning too.
It's a really slow process, but I'm getting there.

Re: The Medical Thread
Well Dad had his meet with the Dr. today. And you all think I'm a grumpy bastard, you should meet my dad. Anyway, what they want to do is the worst knee one Monday, transfer him to a nursing facility for a couple of days, then do the second one the following Monday, a couple of more days in the hospital for recovery, then home with physical therapy for a few weeks locally. If it were me (and I told him this) I'd just do it, his problem is the few days in the nursing home between surgeries. I recommended some books he could take with him. So the final word (mostly I think because Dad is afraid of Mom) is that he'll be getting both knees done sometime in mid January, whether he likes it or not.
Re: The Medical Thread
Good news Shane. I'm glad your Mum has everything in control
We wouldn't call you 'a grumpy bastard', you're not a bastard at all

Re: The Medical Thread
So I got word earlier that Dad's surgery went well. This was his left knee I think. They hope to have him up and walking later today or tomorrow morning depending on how he's feeling once he gets out of recovery. I'm pretty sure nobody is going to letting him wander away until the other knee gets done next week.
Re: The Medical Thread
My brother just sent me a video of Dad walking down the hallway at the hospital this morning. Yeah he's using a walker/ Zimmer frame but he's up. Apparently he also gets to spend 6 hours today on the knee bending machine.
Re: The Medical Thread
Those machines can be a pain in the arse.

Re: The Medical Thread
Round 2. Dad's 2nd surgery seemed to be a little faster, even though they got a late start. He should be up and moving tomorrow if everything goes like the last one and he should be able to go home some time this weekend. I'm still waiting to hear that he's out of post op but so far everything sounds like it's going fine.
Re: The Medical Thread
Glad to hear he's doing well and will be home tomorow. Boston marathon next year?

Re: The Medical Thread
Thanks to the generosity of my dear daughter I now seem to have a head cold from hell .
No work for me today, and I'm pretty sure tomorrow is out too. I hate feeling ill, I'm not a very patient patient
Lemsip FTW

Re: The Medical Thread
As some of you may already know, Jess was rushed in for emergency surgery yesterday. It was not life threatening and the surgery went well and she is in recovery. I don't know what happened but Rosie says she's going to be okay but is kind of tired still so it may be a bit before we get any details. Hopefully she'll be home for her birthday, should be by Christmas anyway.
Re: The Medical Thread
So I heard from the lady herself today. She's still in the hospital under observation due to some minor complications. It sounds to me like she had some sort of extreme hernia happen. She's on morphine and oxygen for a little while yet. She may not be home for her birthday but should make it home for Christmas.
Re: The Medical Thread
Jess did make it home for her birthday. Sore and tired but home and recovering for a while. Good news there.
Re: The Medical Thread
Not good... I just heard from Rosie that she's back in the hospital and they don't know what's going on.

Re: The Medical Thread
I just heard from Jess. She's going to be in the hospital for a little longer but hopes to be home by the end of the month. Christmas in the hospital it looks like.
Re: The Medical Thread
Jess went home today for her Christmas with the family. Now to start back on her recovery.

Re: The Medical Thread
Thanks for keeping everyone updated Shane. I spent from the 18th to the 26th in hospital in the end, with the exception of coming out for my Birthday (that was a silly idea, oops). I was told there was a 10% chance I would die in surgery, so glad I managed to be in the 90% for something for once.
Off work for January now, and not able to do anything strenuous or lift things for another 6 months. Oh well, alive and kicking, that's the main thing!
Great to see you Shane, hopefully I'll be a bit more mobile next time you're here.

Re: The Medical Thread
I had good news, I wont have to have another operation after all, yay! Was dreading the meeting with my surgeon. Now just to try to relax for a week and back to work in February. Not looking forward to that at all.
