My own home
So as some of you know I'll be buying my first home this week. I just went on a walk through with the owner and got some pictures... as requested. ;)Forgive the quality, I had to use the Vita as I've already packed away my camera but here you go.
My place from the parking area is upstairs on the right of the building.
The kitchen from the back door. The new stove and microwave were held up by the storm but should be installed Monday.
The dining area from the back door, to the left are the bath and living room.
The street or front stairs. This is to the left of the bath.
The bathroom, enough said.
This is the living room from a walk in closet, that's the built in entertainment center and the ladder leads to the loft and storage area.
The loft area. To the right leads to a large storage area above the rest of the condo.
The bedroom from the door.
The built-ins in the bedroom looking from the area in the above picture.
And finally the kitchen dining area from the middle of the condo.
So some time Tuesday 57 square feet of this should belong to me and the rest of it will be the banks for a few years.

Re: My own home
I usually dislike the notion of moving but I have to say, that looks like a great little place to live in.

Thanks Zem. I don't like the moving thing either but with a little luck this will be the last one I make. Not paying rent anymore is a huge bonus as well.
Re: My own home
Lovely, thanks for the photos Shane, it looks great, so exciting getting a place of your own too!
Good luck with the move, hope the weather improves for you.

The new place looks great, and looks like you've got a nice deal. For one person it looks plenty big enough with plenty storage. The only draw back would be stairs and being old man and his old dog, that may get old after awhile.

Looks nice Shane
I'm moving to a new apartment in a couple of weeks, though me and my gf are only renting. We're not even close to qualifying for a loan at the moment lol

Glenn, it hasn't been easy and I had that feeling for a long time but a couple of lucky breaks and setting aside a little bit of money every week for the past few years has made it happen... somehow.

Well so far everything is on schedule and looking good. All the money is in place and all that's left to do is to sign the papers and collect my keys. Then it's a done deal. Time to start moving.

Make sure the door is able open before the movers arrive, that was a fun 45mins.

Good luck for today Shane, I'll keep my fingers crossed the weather is kind to you.
Have fun, and just think, tonight you'll be dozing off in your very own place!

Re: My own home
Well not tomorrow. I don't start moving until Friday and don't plan on being in there completely until Sunday. But by the end of the day, I will have my own place. And Zem as the movers, I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Congrats again and hopefully all goes well and smoothly.

Re: My own home
A little hiccup, it seems I started signing wrong but it's all good now. Just waiting for everything to be filed with the town but for all intents, I no longer qualify as a first time home buyer.
Re: My own home
And with that, in the eyes of the town of Nantucket and the state of Massachusetts, I am now a property owner.

Re: My own home
Hope you had a really good sleep last night, the first night in your own place!
Don't forget to post pictures once you've unpacked and settled in Shane.
Well done, welcome to the real rat race

Re: My own home
She still doesn't get it... my first night in the new place won't be until Sunday. Yes I'm a property taxpayer now but it seems I get an abatement that drops that way down for me.
Re: My own home
OK, I get it now, but it is rather unusual to have your own place and not move in on the day it becomes yours. You're really lucky you have 2 places now Shane, for a few days at least lol

Re: My own home
If i ever move house again i think next time i will put all my furniture and stuff into Storage for a month or so and then spend the first 2 weeks after getting the keys doing any decorating etc done (assuming it will need at least something doing) and then bring stuff into the new place over the following couple of weeks in a more organized manor.
It is so much easier and less stressful to do it that way i recon.

Re: My own home
That's pretty much what I'm doing Dazz, except for the storage thing. I'm taking the next 5 days to move and organize, which is probably overkill as I really only have 2 rooms of stuff.
Re: My own home
I've had 2 houses at the same time twice, the only really bad thing was wondering when the other one would be sold.

Re: My own home
I had 2 houses at once twice before, once I got a month to redecorate the new place before I moved in, it was great. The second time I had 2 months with the old place still mine as such, it was odd, as I had moved, but it was nice in a way knowing I could still use the place too.
Good luck over the next few days Shane, don't overdo the shifting, especially with the heavy stuff!

Re: My own home
Day one went okay. All the stuff I had boxed up has been moved and I didn't hurt myself. A couple of issues though... it suddenly got warm and a ll my light jackets are packed. Also we're looking for the stove, we were all there to install it but it doesn't seem to be there yet. So far that might be the biggest problem so far. I can live with that.
Also my brother has decided to come down to give us a hand with the heavy lifting on Sunday.
